If you are going for the
full, pouty, model runway look, you may want to use a flat, smooth
brush to apply gloss from the pot, beginning in the center of the lip,
and working out to the sides, to give a balanced look. Whether you are
applying it on top of lipstick, or alone, a brush gives you more
control, and you can make it a narrow line from the corners of the
mouth, thickening it at the widest spot in the center of your lip, to
provide more shape through highlights.
For less obvious or attention-getting looks, you may want to blot your
gloss the same way you do lipstick, in order to remove some of the
light-reflecting qualities, as well as the stickiness.
Remember that to keep your lips moisturized, you should always apply a
layer of lip balm before using gloss or lipstick. This also allows for
smoother application. You can then experiment with the shades produced
by using a clear gloss over colored lipstick, or the color you get from
combining two different shades of lipstick and gloss. For a lighter,
less dark color, you can apply a thin layer of concealer on your lips,
and put the gloss over top.
For quick touch ups, and just a hint of light, apply your gloss with a
fingertip in the center of your lips, then press together and move back
and forth. This gives you a thin layer that brightens your lipstick or
lips, without the glare of untouched gloss.
